About Us

The Collabamajig is an informal group of people working on a not for profit basis. We never ask for money and we don't touch any money in our charity fundraising projects, it always goes directly to the charity.

About

How did we get here?

This story begins with Matty Twigg (CallsignScarecrow) who, just for fun began coordinating music collabs between streamers. Over time it became clear that the collabs had multiple benefits including helping members of the Twitch music community to come together, make new friends, learn more about music creation, gain exposure to new audiences, all while making some great music.

A few people helped Matty over the years, including a mod named Brittlestar. Working together Matty and Brittle grew the collabs in scale and frequency, adopting a unique name “Collabamajig” which was born out of saying collab thingamajig. It’s a fun thing to say, and equally fun to watch new people struggle to say it.

All collabamajigs have a similar format. Music streamers sign up to participate and names are then drawn at random to determine the groups. Those groups then work together to create a new song or cover song based on the theme of the collab. Part of the challenge is learning about your partner and adapting to find a way to incorporate the instruments, skills and styles of both partners.

The theme changes for each collab, and towards the end of the year we run a special Christmas themed collab which is unique in having the additional goal of raising money for a charity through the release of an album on Bandcamp and  fundraising on Tiltify.

Collabamajigs are now run by a small team of people helping out behind the scenes, a large number of music streamers actively participating, and a wonderful community supporting music on Twitch that help spread the word and celebrate the results.

We don’t!

This project is run for free. We don’t charge anyone anything, ever! We do this for the love of music and  because we believe it’s a good thing.

Most of the songs are on our YouTube channel, the only exception being our charity albums which are available on Bandcamp.

Details of our current or next collab are on the homepage. We also post details on our Announcement Discord.

This project began as a way to help Twitch music streamers work together. It takes considerable effort to make this happen on Twitch, so currently have no plans to expand the project to other platforms.
